John
G
The
Elder to Gaius the beloved, whom I love in truth.
2 Beloved,
concerning all things I pray for
you to prosper and to be in health, as your soul prospers. 3 For I
rejoiced greatly when some brothers came and bore witness of you in
the truth, as you walk in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than
these things, that I hear my children are
walking in the truth. 5 Beloved, you are faithfully doing whatever
you are working for the brothers, and those strangers, 6 who bore
witness of your love before the church, whom you will do well to send
forward worthily of God; 7 for they went forth on behalf of the name
taking nothing from the nations. 8 We ought therefore to entertain
such men, in order that we may become co-workers in the truth.
9
I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes who loves to be first
among them does not receive us. 10 Therefore, if I come, I will
remember his works which he does, prating against us with evil words,
and not being satisfied with these he also does not receive the
brothers, and he prevents those who would and puts them out of the
church.
11 Beloved, do not imitate the bad but the good. The
one who does good is of God; the one who does ill has not seen God.
12 Witness has been born about Demetrius by all, and by the truth
itself; and you know that our witness is true.
13 I had many
things to write to you, but I wish not to write to you by means of
ink and pen; 14 but I am hoping to see you immediately, and we will
speak mouth to mouth. 15 Peace to you. The friends greet you.
Greet the friends by name.
